Anti-Bullying

In our Composition 1 class, we had two speakers come in to talk about two different topics. The most recent speakers came into our classroom to talk to us about “anti-bullying”. About two and a half weeks ago, I walked into my Composition 1 class and saw two ladies standing in front of the class. Even before Mrs. Vallier came into the classroom, I knew that these two ladies were going to talk to us about an important issue. They told us that they were going to talk about “anti-bullying”.  I thought that this was going to be a boring speech because I have heard speeches like these before, but this was different. The two women put a piece a red tape into the middle of the room. I was curious on what we were going to do. They had half of us stand on one side of the line and the other half on the other side. The two ladies asked us several questions that really opened my mind. One of the biggest questions that stood out to me was “how many of you have ever been bullied before?”. Whoever had ever been bullied before had to step on the red line.  It was a shock to me how many people had been bullied before. A lot of people I didn’t expect to step on the red line did. Some of my fellow students were bullied physically or mentally. Although we didn’t share details, it still was an eye-opener to see some of my students on the line.   Another question that stood out to me was “have you ever witnessed anyone being bullied before?”.  Only a few people stood on the line.  I am glad that the two speakers came to our class about “anti-bullying”. Bullying is a huge topic right now and it happens all over the world. I feel that bullying should be stopped because there are people that either commit suicide or snap mentally. I think that both should stop.   Bullying is getting some attention in the media recently. With all the recent suicides happening involving young teens and bullying, it goes to show that bullying needs to stop.  This presentation was meaningful to me because although I have not been bullied, I have witnessed some of my friends being bullied. We were able to get them out of the bullying situation. It is something I not only want to not ever happen again to my friends but to anyone.  It was useful to me because it reiterated to me of some things I knew and it showed me some things I didn’t know.  I will use this information I learned so that I can help stop bullying around the world. I will remember this definitely the next time that I see somebody bullying or even if I am bullied myself. This presentation that the two ladies gave us really opened my eyes. I want to do something about the bullying in our world because it needs to stop and we can do something about it because nobody deserves to be bullied.
